Introduction to Brooklyn Infant Daycare Teachers

Meet Andrea / Daycare Consultant :)

Our daycare opened on January 18, 2011, initially operating an after-school program, now exclusively focusing on infants and toddlers.  Working closely with children for 12 years changed the trajectory of my life. In June 2017, I graduated with a doctorate degree in physical rehabilitation, owing part of my degree to the children. Every day the children practiced perseverance, and it was contagious. By the end of 2017, I launched 1 Of A Kind Home Health Care LLC https://profiles.health.ny.gov/home_health/printview/12573542 specializing in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Language Pathology.

    Andrea’s Areas of Expertise:

Facilitating gross/ fine motor skills, expressive/receptive language, and age-appropriate critical thinking.

Andrea's Happiest Day in the Daycare:

In 2012, Emily was a three-year-old child who had never spoken a single word. She wouldn’t even babble. Though she had not mastered expressive language, she was extremely intelligent. One afternoon, I instructed Tony; a child in second grade, “do not go into the bathroom”. I turned around to zip-up Emily’s coat, and Emily reported, “Tony went into the bathroom!” I turned around, and Tony was indeed in the bathroom.

We had all been working for so long, and up until that day; Emily’s expressive language abilities were developing at a slower rate than expected. Witnessed by 15 other children in the daycare, Emily’s first known expressive language was not a single word, but an entire sentence which was accurate, utilized proper grammar, with advanced cadence. More importantly, Emily understood her environment. She was aware of my directions to Tony, comprehended my directions to Tony, recognized Tony wasn’t following the directions, and appropriately processed the observations. Emily’s achievement was like the success of many children, “gradually, then suddenly”.
